- Nadine Fydryszewski (NJ) received an ASCLS Board of Directors Award for her service as chair of the Annual Meeting Steering Committee.
- Barbara Snyderman (PA) received an ASCLS Board of Directors Award for her 15 years of service as the Master Sargeant-at-Arms.
- Deborah A Josko (NJ) was awarded a foundation grant for $20,000 from UMDNJ. The title of her research proposal is A bioinformatics Approach to Identify and Test Analogs of Paraquat and Maneb Compounds Known to Cause Parkinson's Disease in an Animal Model.
- Don Lehman (DE) promoted to associate professor at the University of Delaware
- Mary Ann McLane (DE) promoted to full professor at the University of Delaware
- Connie Laubenthal (VA) who was featured in an article in the June 2008 AACC publication, Clinical Laboratory News, dealing with the state of proficiency testing
- Ben Sharp (DE) graduated with an MBA in Health Care Administration (with honors) from Wilmington University in December 2007. Ben is currently a Laboratory Information Systems Analyst at Beebe Medical Center in DE, and he is a member of the Beta Sigma Delta honors society for Business and Administration.
- Stephanie DiRosato, Katie Hartman and Marianne Meshreki, University of Delaware students and ASCLS members, won ASCP Honors awards.
- Ashley Johnson
(MD) 2008 graduate of Villa Julie College, MD
received a Siemens (Dade-Behring) Scholarship. - Ashley LeFrois (VA) was accepted as a member of the 2009 ASCLS Leadership Academy class.
- Vivi-Anne Griffey (MD) and the faculty at Villa Julie College in Maryland received initial accreditation for its Medical Technology Program for 5 years. There were no marginal or non-compliances with any of the Standards. They will graduate their second class this May.
- Sharon Strauss (PA) received a $1000 educational grant from Pfizer to support a speaker for the ASCLS-PA annual spring meeting.
- Mary Beth Miele (PA) received a $1500 educational grant from Novo Nordisk to support a speaker for the ASCLS-PA annual spring meeting.
- Frankie Harris-Lyne (VA) completed her Master of Science in Occupational Technical Studies from Old Dominion University in December 2007.
- Michele Lachance (PA) passed an examination for Certified Histocompatibility Technologist by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI).
- Jean Chappell (WV) awarded a grant ($220,000) to assist in the development of an A.A.S Biotechnology program at Marshall Community and Technical College (MCTC). The is a Technical Program grant from the WV Community and Technical College System. Along with a Verizon grant awarded in January, the total is $282,000 for Biotechnology at MCTC.
- Scott Aikey (PA), ASCLS President-elect in 2007-08, has successfully completed the process for EPIC software's "Hospital Services Departments" certification. He is the first person at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to complete this rigorous exam.
